There was a car on Track 2 (I don't know how it managed to get there) a few miles south of Jersey Ave. The car ran off the road on Livingston Ave, which parallels the train tracks. The car was unrecognizable after an Amtrak train hit it at 100 mph.

I saw something in the paper about that. I think it was a young driver who failed to negotiate a curve, ran through a fence, and down onto the tracks.

Luckily the driver got out of the car before impact.

The reason he was on 1 track is because I was on 2 track with a high speed train. I passed him at milepost 49. The next thing we heard was him reporting the fatality.

Amtrak train kills person on tracks near Princeton

The Associated Press

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - Authorities say an Amtrak passenger train struck and killed a person on the tracks near the Princeton Junction station in New Jersey.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says the victim was struck at about 7 p.m. Friday by Amtrak train 178 bound from Washington, D.C., to Boston.

Magliari says there were no injuries aboard the train, and passengers were transferred to other trains to continue their trip.

The accident caused 15- to 20-minute delays for NJ Transit commuter trains and minor delays for other Amtrak trains on the Northeast Corridor line.

The name of the victim has not been released. Transit police and local authorities are investigating.

Bicyclist loses leg in rail line accident
By: DAVID LEVINSKY
Burlington County Times

RIVERSIDE - A bicyclist's lower left leg was amputated when he was struck by a River Line light rail train near the township's downtown train station Monday.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. His condition is not known.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Courtney Carroll said the accident occurred at around 5 p.m. at the rail line's Riverside station. She said a northbound River Line train was pulling into the station when an adult male rode a bicycle around the gates guarding the crossing at Pavilion Avenue and into the moving train.

"I was stopped at the light and I saw him fly by me on his bike and go into the train," said Edgewater Park resident Michele Wallenta. "Afterwards, I ran up to him. He was amputated below the knee, so I just started screaming for everyone to get their shirts off."

Wallenta, who works as a surgical coordinator for an orthopedist, was able to get a tourniquet on the man's knee in order to slow the bleeding.

Police and paramedics arrived soon after, and the man was eventually flown to Cooper.

Wallenta said the man was conscious while she performed first aid but appeared to have lost a lot of blood.

"I just hope he makes it," she said. "The whole thing was surreal, but I believe I was supposed to be there at that moment to help him."

No other injuries were reported in the incident.

Carroll said the accident disrupted service on the River Line for about an hour. During that time, passengers on the trains were bused between the Delanco and Cinnaminson stations.

The incident was the second serious accident this month involving the Camden-to-Trenton light-rail line. The earlier accident involved a 23-year-old Ewing man who was struck and killed by a train June 20 while walking along the tracks near the rail line's Florence station off Route 130. An investigation revealed the man was talking on a cell phone when the accident occurred.

NJ Transit train crashes with car, kills 92-year-old driver in Bergen County
by The Star-Ledger Continuous News Desk
Monday July 27, 2009, 11:53 AM

EMERSON -- A 92-year-old man was killed this morning when his car was struck by a NJ Transit train after he drove through warning gates on the Pascack Valley line in Bergen County, according to reports in the Record and myFoxNY.com.

The crash occurred at around 10 a.m. at Kinderkamack Road and Emerson Plaza. The driver has not been identified.

NJ Transit officials told the Record that the train engineer sounded a horn and attempted to apply the emergency brake as the car pulled through the warning gates for the train tracks, but the train was unable to stop.

Passengers were transferred to a bus and up to 30 minute delays were reported on the Pascack Valley line.

Woman dies after train strikes car in Atco

By Matthew Spolar

Inquirer Staff Writer

An unidentified woman died yesterday afternoon after her car was struck by an NJ Transit train in Atco.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Courtney Carroll said the accident occurred about 4:15 p.m. She said there were no reported injuries among the approximately 100 passengers aboard the train, which left Atlantic City at 3:36 p.m. for Philadelphia. The passengers were transfered to buses.

Afterward, the small car lay in a mangled heap on the side of the tracks where Bartram Avenue crosses Atlantic Avenue.

A block from the crash, at the Atco Avenue intersection, technicians were working on the train. The line was back in service around 7:30, Carroll said.

Neighbors said it was among a handful of car accidents that have taken place at the two intersections in the last couple of years.

Bill Weyman has lived up the street on Atco Avenue for 20 years. He said he didn't hear the crash, but another sound told him something was wrong. "Whenever you hear them lean on the horn and they don't let up, you know something's happened," he said.

Here's something you don't see everyday. NJT rail operations vs NJT Bus operations, in a grade crossing face off. I was stranded in Philadelphia on Saturday when this occurred. We didn't know the details, so it's good to know everyone is unharmed...except for the engineer, of course.  Roll Eyes

NJ Transit train strikes bus on the tracks in Camden County
By Sharon Adarlo/The Star-Ledger
December 19, 2009, 8:50PM

PENNSAUKEN -- A NJ Transit train struck a bus that had become stuck on the tracks in Camden County tonight, slightly injuring the train engineer, authorities said.

The train en route to Atlantic City with 38 passengers aboard struck the NJ Transit bus on the 404 line at 7:27 p.m. in Pennsauken at Park and Cooper avenues, said Dan Stessel, NJ Transit spokesman.

Stessel said the 26 bus passengers and the driver evacuated the bus before the accident. Snow and ice caused the bus to get stuck on the tracks, he said. The engineer was being treated at the scene for facial cuts.

The train, which is on the Atlantic City rail line, received minor damage, Stessel said. The line is experiencing delays of one to two hours.

Bus service in the southern part of the state has been suspended until further notice, Stessel said.

Everyone was unharmed, but let's see how long it takes the 38 rail pax to file lawsuits and medical claims for their sudden neck sprains and emotional distress.

They were not on the bus only 9 passengers on the train and 6 requested medical attention. Engineer went to hospital in AC.
From what I know, the Dispatcher knew about the bus for almost 40 minutes and did not inform the train. Someone is going to fry for that hopefully

2 killed by NJ Transit trains at 2 stations
1 in Aberdeen; 1 in New Brunswick

By KEVIN PENTON • STAFF WRITER • February 1, 2010

Two unidentified men were struck and killed by NJ Transit trains during separate incidents at opposite ends of Monday's commute, authorities said.

The first man stepped in front of a Long Branch-bound NJ Transit train near the boundary between Aberdeen and Matawan about 5:30 a.m., said Dan Stessel, a NJ Transit spokesman. The nearest intersection was Cliffwood Avenue, he said.

The train's engineer reported that the man did not heed warnings to get out of the way, Stessel said.

About 4:15 p.m., the second man was struck by a train at an unmarked crossing near the New Brunswick rail station, Stessel said.

The first incident caused delays on the North Jersey Coast Line of up to 45 minutes, while the second delayed service on the Northeast Corridor Line up to an hour, as authorities investigated.

Both incidents are still under investigation, Stessel said. The identities of the men have not been released yet, he said.
