General Comments and Gripes
«

I set this up so we have a thread where people can just go add random comments, gripes, etc. instead of starting a new thread each time, or adding to one that isn't really applicable.
I'll start with a topic. Last night after the Yankee game I took the 10:28 NEC train. While we were still in NYPenn there was an announcement that was actually very helpful. The train was an express, and the conductor said that if you're going to certain intermediate stations, take the 10:38, or for other stations take the 10:42. But then that was the last announcement made on the whole trip! So if you didn't know the trains well, you just had to guess when your stop was. I could imagine people headed for Newark but getting out at Secaucus.

Then what would be the purpose of TH? Maybe you should start your own web site like randomcomments.com! Let me know how that works.

The thread is not a replacement for TH. It's just to make it a little easier for certain comments. If you want to talk about an incident on a train ride, for example, you either have to find another thread where it would fit the topic, or create a whole new thread. If there's one thread for just miscellaneous comments, it cuts down on the number of threads to make it more manageable, and it may help people who don't want to start a new thread if none of the existing ones fit the topic they want to address.

All I'm saying is this site has gone on from the beginning just as it is. If it doesn't work for you, you can start your own. Why try to modify how this site works?

How is it a modification of the site? It's just one additional thread. People can start new threads when they want to, but this was just intended to be a "catch-all" for comments that don't fit in existing threads, and for people who don't want to start a new thread for something that might just be a minor issue. If you don't want to use it, don't. It doesn't matter to me.

like my gripe that the train i took home late Friday night ended up 20 minutes late after we low-levelled at Metropark & Metuchen then sat at Edison ...all for no apparent reason? No need to start a whole thread for that.

...or for the guy across the aisle on the 6:03 Friday night. He was from Dublin, traveling with a couple, seemed to have something to do with rock music, and could not stop playing drums with his hand on his leg the whole way to Princeton Junction.

ThirdRail: that assumes he was actually playing a tune. For all I know, he just had ADD and couldn't sit still.

This morning the 7:03 double-decker pulled into PJC and lined up with the temporary bridges. At one set of bridges towards the back (front of the second-to-last car), there was no conductor to open either door. One set of bridges back (back of that same car), a conductor opened one of the two doors, then stood on the bridge, not opening the other door at the adjacent bridge (about 10 feet away). Then at the end of the last car, the door was also not opened. The people on the more forward set called to the conductor to ask him to come open the doors, but he replied that his job was that door. So people from the forward bridge, the bridge he opened, the one ten feet from him that he didn't open, and the last bridge all had to file through the one open door that the lazy ass decided to open. Four bridges of people through one door.

mhnj, maybe they don't bother opening all the doors because they know damn well there isn't enough room on that train....I find it amazing that as that train is just pulling away there is already a crowd for the next one. That 7:03 has always been popular, but it has gotten ridiculous.
anyone know when the track work is going to be completed so we can get rid of the bridges?

My double decker train from Dover to NYP pulled into Penn on the same platform as another double decker unloading. Craptastic. What really made it fun was the idiot who was standing next to me who stepped on my toes 3 times. I mean, my fault for wearing sandals or something, but geez. Watch where you're stepping.

They're better than halfway done. Another 3 weeks to a month should do it.

Why has Amtrak broken their signals near Seacaucus twice already this week? AAARRRGGGHHHHHHHHH!
Really, I don't mind getting to work 45 minutes late at all. No problem. Go ahead and do that to me any time you want.
