Via Clever Commute:

[NJTT-NEC] 436 from nyp...low voltage problem. No trains leaving.

Yep, it's going to be a fun one tonight. Especially for me—I could barf any minute now due to...I don't even know. Probably lack of sleep due to my cutie pie new baby daughter. If you see a zombie lookalike in an light orange jogging jacket, say hello and/or pick me up off the ground, kthx.

Due to Amtrak power supply problem, all Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line and MidTOWN DIRECT trains are being held at stations. Service is temporarily suspended.

Congratulations jjostm! Maybe getting on a train that doesn't go anywhere would be just the thing for you. Extra sleep time!

Yeah, I think this sound effect is most needed:

As long as I can get on one. Preferably a single-seat on a DD (like the 5:54).

Mmm...sweet, delicious, sleep....

I guess the NJT web site crashed because I haven't been able to get into it for a while. I wonder if they're cross-honoring tix on the busses. Not that it would do me a whole lotta good.

Me, either. I will just hang out here at work until something good happens.  Undecided

Ditto. I think I'm going to my favourite Vietnamese place, having a beer or two, eat and relax for an hour or so. I picture the buses looking like something from a third-world nation, with people holding onto the sides. It's Tsingtao time.

As far as an update, via CC:

Just called NJ transit.  They say it sounds pretty bad from Amtrak, and they don’t know how long it would be down, maybe an hour, or two hours, or more.   All NE corr related lines (Princeton dinky, Raritan valley, M-direct) are all down.   I would suggest looking into bus (suburban transit, nj transit buses) leaving from port authority.

I'm sorry but this is just comical.

NEC #3975, the 6:34pm departure from New York Penn station is operating 112 minutes late near Newark Penn due to earlier Amtrak power supply problem

Um, yeah. Okay.

I didn't get ONE text message, but I got a slew of emails, including the one Ripper posted. Ugh. I just got home about 20 minutes ago. I wanted to take a picture of the screen that had each train saying "Standby" but no one could move. It was like sardine city!

I got lucky. I left work early and got to Penn about 5:45. They had just started loading a few trains. Just before 6:00 they announced the 5:30 Trenton express (it actually turned out to be the 5:01). I got on (a DD!), got a seat, and we left around 6:10. We had to follow a local for most of the way, but we got to PJC about 7:30. So I was home only about 15 minutes later than I usually am when I take the 6:13.

I love how the NJT website has busted code so whenever they posted a link, the font was different for the rest of the paragraph.  LIfe is about details.

Got home at 10 p.m. I took (I think) the 6:47 p.m. train to Jersey Ave. (left around 8:15) which they converted into a local train. I'm glad I decided to eat and miss the chaos that ensued at NYPS and Newark Penn. In fact, I got a three-seater to myself, and I got to lay down and relax a wee bit.

I went to Saigon Grill near Union Square, had a nice filling meal & two beers. It helped significantly. Nom nom nom.
