Good luck getting home everyone.  I was also on the 8:14am train this morning out of Jersey Ave that got into NYP at 9:26.  Looks like I'm starting the year off 0-2.  Shocker.

NEC #3860 (the 3:59 pm Trenton departure) up to 25 min. delay near Metropark due to earlier track obstruction.

Trains in/out of New York Penn Station subject to 20-30 minute delays due to earlier Amtrak overhead wire problem.

As I walked up the stairs to the Madison train station this morning, the warning chimes started up: the 7:23 M&E train was six minutes late.

I checked the NJ Transit website before I left the office at 4:50 PM. It said that all trains were operating on or close to schedule, except for a disabled train near Metropark on the NEC.

As I got on the 5:20 M&E train at NYPS, an announcement was made that due to earlier overhead wire problems, all trains leaving NYPS were subject to 30 minute delays due to an earlier problem and congestion. Well we left the platform on time, then spent 20 minutes going through the tunnel. Once we got out of the tunnel, we waited about 25 minutes more, before hightailing it to Newark Broad Street. All in all, I was able to get to my daughter's daycare center 15 minutes after it closed, which is a mandatory fine.  I should bill NJT for it. The train was more than 1/2 hour late.

Yeah, Ripper, NJ Transit is off to a winning start for the hearts and minds of the New Jersey populace.

0-3 Boys and Girls...

Due to overhead wire problem, Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line and Raritan Valley are subject to 30 - 60 minute delays in both directions.

Good luck this morning.  Excellent that it's in the low teens too.  Hope everyone bundled up.  How many days of delays do we need before we get a monthly refund like that one July a few years back?  Let's start the counter!

So far, there's only been ONE train through my station and it didn't stop due to overcrowding. I am a human popsicle. Back inside the house for now, gonna get the husband to shuttle me to Newark and hope I can crowbar my way into the PATH. Hopefully that's still operating??? On a positive note, I got the email at about 7:00am this morning.

On my train this AM they announced 60 minute delays due to a downed wire. Well we were almost exactly 60 minutes late, so good estimating! Last night the train I was on was also almost exactly 60 minutes late getting to PJT. But at least I was warm and cozy on DD's both times.
At least be thankful we weren't the ones out there fixing the problem wires in this cold!

0-4. This morning's M&E train was 20 minutes late. No explanation given. However, upon leaving Newark Broad Street, the announcement to the crew was to get ready for an unscheduled stop at Secaucus. About 10 minutes late, the announcement said the unscheduled stop was cancelled. That was it for announcements.

My train was delayed this morning too.  We ha to wait a few minutes at Netherwood and Cranford and it was slow going into Newark Penn as well.  Luckily the connecting trains to NYC were running on time.  All in all my train got into Newark about 30 minutes later than scheduled.

I waited for an hour for my RVL...a couple expresses came through and didn't stop.  I finally said the hell with it and am working from the home office today.

Incidentally, I had to laugh / curse at NJT for advising that everyone stay inside the station.  Ours has been boarded up for years, so it was hang out in the cold and wind.  Thanks guys.

I took the 7:08 RVL local out of Bound Brook this morning.  I have to say that the condctor was really good in keeping us updated on the delays.  He let us know each time we'd have to wait at a station and the reasons why we were delayed.

Why is it that when a train is delayed  NJT cannot run a River Line train for the 30 people standing in Trenton at 8:31pm getting slapped around by wind?  They sure as hell could have one run up to the platform and leave!  They also had no trouble changing my express this morning to a local and from the way those people looked...lucky them.

I dig that crazy shit happens but if Penn Station is a cattle yard again today I am just getting a hotel room.

Our conductor on whichever train I was on out of Jersey Ave was very informative; almost too informative.  Couple of times I just wished he'd shut up already.  Did I mention that the doors weren't closing properly? When we finally got the okay to leave Jersey Ave, we couldn't because of the doors.  Whether it was the cold or the crowds, no one knew, but the conductors had to run up and down the subsequent platforms making sure that everything was closed up tight.

And kudos to whoever it was on that train who made the wise decision to bypass MetroPark.  There was no way anyone was going to get on or off that train at that point.

And kudos to me for wearing my longjohns today.

NY Times wrote up a couple of the morning's troubles:

It appears the PATH is running again, at least.

"“We’re hopeful,” Cliff Cole, an Amtrak spokesman, said at noon."

This gives me no confidence. Also, I love the fact that there was a 'drunk passenger' at 8:45am.
