How many deaths does it take before someone realizes something is wrong here.

I am told by the Star ledger that there was more deaths from

incidents involving NJT Trains in November then records showed in each total for prior years back to 1954 does this not set off any RED FLAGS ,If a death or accident occurs the crew gets three days paid vacation while the tox reports are done, does that seem right, couldn’t they come in to a office and or station and do their shift hours? It seems to me no real effort exists in policing NJT prior to any of these accidents.

Did anyone hear about this? I just found it. Very bizarre.

2 Killed on N.J. Transit Tracks

    By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

    Published: November 21, 2006

    Filed at 9:26 a.m. ET

BRADLEY BEACH, N.J. (AP) — A man was struck and killed early Tuesday by a commuter train sent to pick up passengers stranded after their first train hit and killed a woman, authorities said.

Two hundred passengers were aboard an NJ Transit train when it hit a woman in Matawan, 22 miles south of Newark, just before midnight Monday, agency spokesman Dan Stessel said.

A train was sent to pick up passengers from the first train while the death was being investigated, and the passengers continued south, Stessel said.

Around 2 a.m., the second train struck and killed a man in Bradley Beach, about 15 miles from Matawan. Stessel said crew members on the train did not know they had hit someone until they stopped in Spring Lake, about 4 miles away.

Authorities were investigating the deaths. NJ Transit said there were no significant delays for morning commuters.

Who else was inconvenienced by the jumper (I assume it was a suicide) in Bridgewater? I got to Dunellen for my usual 7:06 AM. I knew there was touble when I was greeted by a sea of people. Announcements stated there were delays due to “police activity.”

After about 20 minutes, we were instructed to proceed to the westbound platform, as the next NY train would stop there. So, we cattle go down and up the stairs, wait for the train, only to receive another announcement instructing us that the next NY train would be on the eastbound platform (from where we had all moved). Back down and up the stairs we all go…nice friggin job NJT, as usual.

Got to work about 30 minutes later than usual. Not too bad, but can’t these jumpers wait until off-peak hours? It’s not my fault their lives are in the crapper. Let’s assume about 1,000 commuters were effected, and each lost a half-hour of productivity. That’s a total of 500 manhours lost because someone couldn’t take it anymore. Call me callous and insensitive, but I don’t see it as a fair trade.

All of my days are starting to blend into each other, but if my mind serves me correctly, this happened yesterday.

I was working on the Main Line so I only overheard bits and pieces of conversations on the radio.

A conductor calls the M&E train dispatcher requesting EMS at Mountain Station for an unconcious passenger. When EMS arrived they declared the man dead, on the train. Was anybody on board that train to tell me about it.

To top it off, at the same time there was another call for EMS in Hoboken Terminal for another man bleeding o death in the men’s room.

If anybody knows anything. Dish it out!!!!

Anyone have any more details on today’s “trespasser” smash-up in Hamilton? was it really an idiot trespasser or another suicide? I got to Princeton Junction at 7:15, couldn’t get on the first train that showed up at around 7:50, got on the next one at 8:30, which made EVERY stop, and I had to stand the whole way. Got into NY Penn at 10:30.

One night, back when I was on the NJCL, there was a teenage guy zonked out of his mind on the train. He smelled like a brewery and was passed out before we left NY Penn. Anyway, somewhere along the line, I got into a conversation with a conductor about having to deal with people in that condition. “The worst part is when they die on you.” Apparently, he’d had to deal with several drug overdoses during his time served on the rails.

I didn’t have time to get into it with him as we got to my station. So, to all you NJT employees among us, let me ask: Exactly how common is that? I saw a guy last night that I thought may be a candidate, which is what got me thinking…
