cameo: Kolluri & Co in Trenton: Up tunnel creek with paddle slipping away:end of year deadline for raising 1.5 billion dollars for tunnel project. Unless Trenton lawmakers figure out how to scrape together $1.5 billion by the end of this year — the amount it has pledged to spend on the Trans-Hudson Express Tunnel — New Jersey risks not securing a guarantee that the federal government will kick in $3 billion. Asked how New Jersey will find $1.5 billion at a time it's struggling financially, state Transportation Commissioner Kris Kolluri said Gov. Corzine will announce a plan soon. cameo: How horrible is NJ Transit? "In our world, you can’t define success unless you are measuring something." says Ripper. And I would agree with that statement. So how horrible is NJ Transit then? Can the new member to the forum, NJTRANSITISHORRIBLE, define the term "horrible"? cameo: And the price tag for riders, Ripper? More locos, more fare increases? Ripper, what are your fortune tellers saying? On the flip side we will all be on time! More tunnels, more locos, hey what more can we ask? Life will be boring for NJT, no more blame on Amtrak! BERLIN, GERMANY, Aug 18, 2008 (Marketwire via COMTEX) ----Bombardier Transportation announced today it has signed two contracts to supply a total of 46 dual-powered passenger locomotives to the New Jersey Transit Corporation (NJ TRANSIT) and the Agence Metropolitaine de Transport (AMT: 39.76, -0.19, -0.47%) in Montreal. ThirdRail: NJCLguy Says: July 11th, 2007 at 10:12 pm People should be asking why Amtrak and NJ Transit are not going to fix or replace Portal Bridge until the new tunnel is complete in ten years. Portal Bridge is used everyday now and will be for the next ten years. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The ultimate question is: Who are the geniuses that thought it was a good idea to build a giant transfer station at the foot of a decrepit, 100 yr old bridge that is prone to failure?? Give those guys a raise!!! in - Portal Bridge

ThirdRail: yellowbird Says: October 25th, 2006 at 11:45 am thats correct jerseyavevet, but i had thought there were restrictions put on portal bridge from 6am-9am and from 4pm to 7 pm ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- True Yellowbird, however the ships ultimately have the right of way. For the record, Amtrak and NJT asked the Coast Guard to extend the embargo hours from 6am to 10a and 3:30pm to 7:30pm. But, if a ship shows up in that time frame, they HAVE to open the bridge. in - Portal Bridge

ThirdRail: Great pictures, Cameo. After that fiasco a few years ago, when they have a low voltage condition, they stop traffic ASAP. The problem was a tree wrapped in the transmission lines. However, when C-TEC was offline a few weeks ago, it was because the PSCC operations center was without power because Con-Ed lost the feed. So, in the technical sense of the word, it was an Amtrak signal problem, which NJT was only too happy to crow. They even took the liberty of blaming their broken down Princeton Shuttle on the Amtrak signal problem (even though it broke down the in - The Way To Blow

cameo: NJT communicates: say what? Insightful explanation Third Rail. Your posts are very informative! "More often than not, the low voltage occurnces are because of supply problems, not transmission problems." _____________________ Strangely enough I got this alert last week: From: njt_alert@njtransit.com [mailto:njt_alert@njtransit.com] Sent: Monday, August 11, 2008 9:42 AM Due to earlier Amtrak low-voltage condition, all NEC, NJCL and MidTOWN DIRECT service is subject to 15-30 minute delays in both directions . cameo: 10 gems on the double decker, exchanged between Corzine and a passenger during the promotion tour: 1. So you are going to Penn Station, oh you mean Newark Penn Station? I thought New York and Newark Penn stations were one and the same?!!!! 2. At least I don’t have to wear a damn seat belt on this train! 3. I am impressed with how friendly the conductors are on this train! Must be the special drinking water on the double deckers! 4. Great thing is, there is so much space on the seats for one’s luggage! 5. Given how much gas costs these days, at in - NJ Transit double decker trains will not solve our problems
